On October 19, 2007, WEC completed construction of an approximately 28,000 square foot soil nail wall for the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C.
Soil nails in excess of 30 feet long were extended under adjacent city streets while working around existing underground utilities.
The soil nails were extended through a combination of fill, residual soils, partially weathered rock and hard rock. Blasting was performed below the completed upper portions of the soil nail wall to extend the excavation and allow construction of the lower portions of the soil nail wall.
DrainGreats, a product developed and patented by WEC, were installed at the base of the wall along with drainboard to relieve potential hydrostatic pressure behind the shotcrete facade.
